CLS represents the interests of Philly residential and small business customers as the ‘Public Advocate’ in water rate proceedings. Last year, the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) asked the Philadelphia Water, Sewer and Storm Water Rate Board for a $141 Million rate increase over two years. We reached a settlement that saved Philly residents nearly $84 Million!
Currently, rates are scheduled to increase by $34 Million in September 2022. But we have an opportunity in a Special Rate Proceeding to reduce that rate increase and save even more! The Board can reduce the rates based on stimulus funding received by PWD or based on its financial performance in the 2021 fiscal year.
