Now more than ever, there is a need to be able to provide remote legal advice to people on a large scale and ensure that people are aware of their rights and ability to get their records cleared. The Clean Slate Screening Project (CSSP) is a model of a multi-faceted and remotely run project, incorporating a massive communications effort with technology and pro bono assistance to deliver on the promise of providing individualized record screening and advice to 10,000+ Pennsylvanians. The project has had unanticipated benefits, like the opportunity to communicate with people around the state about criminal record problems they have encountered. This session tells the story of CSSP with lots of lessons learned and tips for practitioners grappling with similar challenges in their practices, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.
