Even in the best of times, practitioners around the country face barriers to providing record clearing to their clients. Eligibility and procedures for criminal record-clearing vary from state to state—and even sometimes from county to county. Practitioners experience barriers to record-clearing beyond those established by statute, such as difficulties in obtaining necessary documentation or long waiting periods. Community Legal Services has conducted a survey of record-clearing practitioners around the country to determine what day-to-day barriers they experience in record-clearing in their communities. This session examines preliminary results of that survey and offer an opportunity for practitioners to share experiences and suggest solutions to some of the barriers.
