You have the right to be served in your language when you deal with the Social Security office. They are required to provide free interpretation for people who don’t speak or understand English well.
Oral Interpretation:
No matter what language you speak, you have the right to an interpreter to help you communicate with people at the Social Security office. The interpreter who speaks your language will either be someone at the office or someone on the phone. You should not be forced to come back later because you need interpretation, and you should never be asked to bring your own interpreter.
Written Notices:
If you speak Spanish, you have the right to receive notices in Spanish.
If you have trouble speaking or understanding English, ask for an interpreter. The Social Security office must figure out what language you speak and help you in your language.
