Travis Southard (he/him) develops web and data tools to help CLS caseworkers work more effectively and efficiently and to help CLS tell stories through data. He also administers CLS’s case management system and helps put together reports about CLS’s work and clients. He was featured on Technical.ly’s RealLIST Engineers 2023 for his work in civic technology.
Outside CLS, Travis volunteers as Co-Director of Code for Philly and has worked on and led the PAX (PA Expunger) project. He spends his free time riding bikes, making pixel art, and enjoying movies and video games. Prior to CLS, he worked as a software engineer at Azavea, Element 84, Urality, and Comcast.
Before transitioning into working in tech, Travis spent about 5 years working in the bicycle industry as a mechanic and bike tour organizer. He is also an Americorps alum who served in City Year Philadelphia. He has over 13,000 miles of bike touring experience having ridden from Charleston, SC to Santa Cruz, CA and Providence, RI to Seattle, WA with Bike & Build, the full East Coast Greenway with his best friend, and the southwest coast of Ireland with his spouse, Ruby.
