If debt collectors call many times each day or at all hours of the day and night, call your employer about your debt, or call you names or make threats when you speak with them, CLS may be able to help.
We provide legal information and advice to people who are receiving debt collection calls and letters. We can advise you on how to stop the harassment and how to defend against debt collectors trying to collect debt that they have no legal right to collect. We may also be able to help you identify whether the collectors have harassed you in violation of state or federal consumer protection laws.
If you have been sued by a creditor or debt collector, we may be able to help you. Many people have strong defenses to debt collection lawsuits. We often provide legal information, advice, and representation to people who have been sued in Municipal Court and the Court of Common Pleas.
DO NOT IGNORE ANY COURT PAPERS YOU RECEIVE! Seek legal help as soon as you receive court papers. Even if you don’t have a lawyer, it is important to go to your court hearing. If you don’t go, the other side may automatically win.
If your bank account has been frozen, or your wages or benefits are being garnished, we can help you figure out why that is happening and whether your account was wrongfully frozen or your wages wrongfully garnished. We may be able to help you use your account again and may provide further legal assistance in some cases.
