Alix is the Executive Director of Asian Americans United. Begun in 1985, Asian Americans United (AAU) exists so that people of Asian ancestry in Philadelphia exercise leadership to build their communities and unite to challenge injustices. AAU has had a particular focus on addressing the many educational challenges facing Asian immigrant communities in Philadelphia, and a consistent focus on working with young people — to harness their bilingual and bicultural skills, and to engage their critical thinking and political awareness in the service of their communities. Alix is fourth generation Japanese American. She graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Art History. Alix came to AAU having worked for more than two decades locally and nationally with communities organizing for economic justice and human rights, and is a co-founder of Philadelphia’s Media Mobilizing Project.
