Pennsylvanians Can Still Sign Up for Health Insurance for 2017!

Since the 2016 election, there has been talk about whether people’s health insurance coverage will change. Obamacare, Medicaid, and Medicare are still the law of the land.  Take action today to sign up for health insurance!

Q:  Can I still sign up for health insurance for 2017?

A:  Yes!  Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, are still the law of the land. The rules for those programs are not changing right now. You should sign up for health insurance right away. You should get the medical care that you need.

Q:  How do I sign up for Medicaid?

A:  Most lower-income people will qualify for Medicaid.  Medicaid covers doctors’ visits, hospital stays, and prescriptions. It is free or very low cost. To apply for Medicaid, visit compass.state.pa.us or call (866) 550-4355. You can get in-person help by calling (877) 570-3642.

Q:  How do I sign up for Marketplace coverage under Obamacare?

A:  If you don’t qualify for Medicaid because your family makes too much money or you have a waiting period due to immigration status, you can shop for health insurance on the Marketplace. You can apply between November 1, 2016 and January 31, 2017.

Marketplace insurance covers most doctors’ visits, hospital stays, and prescriptions.  Many people will qualify for financial help to buy health insurance. The monthly premiums and other costs will be very low for many people.

To shop for Marketplace coverage, visit healthcare.gov. You can get in-person help by calling (877) 570-3642.

Q:  How do I sign up for Medicare?

A:  Many people who are 65 or older or who have long-term disabilities qualify for Medicare. The Social Security Administration will contact you if you qualify. Medicare is not free, but programs are available to make coverage more affordable.

If you qualify for Medicare and you want to sign up or change plans, you can do so during open enrollment. Open enrollment runs from October 15, 2016 to December 7, 2016.  If you also receive Medicaid, you can change plans at any time.
