Notice of Rent Increase Bill Passes in City Council Committee

Today, Philadelphia City Council voted in committee to pass Bill No 140716, which establishes requirements for landlords to provide notice of a rent increase to tenants, and for tenants to provide notice to landlords if they wish not to renew the lease.  This legislation is especially important for low and moderate income families, providing them with an opportunity to find another decent, affordable place and to relocate to that unit.  It also benefits landlords by providing them with reasonable notice that the tenant wishes not to renew their lease, and with an opportunity to find a new tenant so that the unit does not remain vacant. Along with TURN and Councilman Greenlee, CLS was involved in the drafting of the legislation. Click here to read CLS Managing Attorney George Gould's testimony in support of the bill.
