1. What is LIHEAP?
Its the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. It has 2 parts:
- Regular LIHEAP pays ONE grant of at least $100 to help with a heating bill. This includes bills for electricity, gas, water, oil, propane, kerosene, or other fuel types.
- LIHEAP Crisis pays ONE grant of up to $400 to stop a shut-off of utility service, to get service turned back on, to get fuel if a household is out of fuel or about to run out of fuel.
2. Who Can Get LIHEAP?
Most households that meet the income limits and are responsible for heat bills are eligible. This includes households that:
- Own their home,
- Rent their home and pay for heat directly to a utility company,
- Rent their home and pay for heating fuel directly to a vendor,
- Rent private, unsubsidized housing and pay for heat as a part of their rent.

3. How Do I Apply for LIHEAP?
To apply for Regular LIHEAP and LIHEAP Crisis, mail or take your application to:

4. When Can I Apply for LIHEAP?
Regular LIHEAP is open for everyone November 2, 2009 through March 15, 2010
LIHEAP Crisis:
- If your heat is OFF or you have no heating fuel - You can apply to restore your heat from November 2 - March 15.
- If your heat is ON, but you have a shut-off notice or are about to run out of heating fuel - You can apply to prevent losing your heat from January 4 - March 15.
